Career guidance plays a key role in engineering. Engineering being a multi-disciplined field with new disciplines and branches always being added with the advancement of science and country specific industries, requires good amount of guidance in terms of identifying current trends and required skills to be successful. The availability of career and industrial guidance for engineering undergraduates has been a challenge at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna due to the vast distance from the industrial zones of the country and the comparative freshness of the faculty. Considering these factors, the “Out There” seminar series was organized by the Jaffna Engineering Faculty Alumni Association. The first talk was conducted on the 17th of July 2019. Mr Sangar an Electrical Engineering graduate from E/13 currently employed as the Regional Planning Engineer At Dialog Axiata Pvt. Ltd. and Mr Ashan a Civil Engineering graduate from E/13, currently employed as Site Engineer Greater Matale Water Supply Project were invited for the first seminar.
